The Best Twist Out EVER!

I'm not a huge fan of twist outs, and the main reason is because the times I've tried it didn't turn out good at all! And I was just looking a hot mess! Now that I've been natural for a while I know that products used make a huge difference on how a style will turn out and this time around I think I had the perfect combination of products.

The two products I used were Carol's Daughters Black Vanilla Leave In Conditioner (that's a really long name lol) and Kiehl's Strong Hold Styling Gel (for which I have a review here)

I simply parted my hair into sections, sprayed some water and added the above products and twisted my hair into two strand twists. I also added just a little bit more gel to the ends and I twirled it a little bit so my ends would have some type of definition. (and it looked something like this).

I didn't wear it down because my hair hair suffers from major shrinkage and if the style doesn't stretch my hair then I have to wear it up. Only because I don't like the way my hair looks if it's down but not in a style that's stretched. But as a puff it was GIVING ME LIFE HUNTY (lol)

Well there you have ladie sand gents. The best twist out your girl has ever experienced in her natural hair journey!

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT? DID I DO AIIGHT?

Simple Natural Updo Hair Style

As a natural girl styling my natural hair can quite honestly be a pain in the ass. I have extremely thick hair and it's course in some part and some what coily in others. So the best way for me to style my hair is to stretch it. And I love to stretch my hair by braiding it. So for this style my hair had been stretched with braids.

And this is such a simple way of doing my hair. All I did was leave a portion of hair out in the front and I put the rest into a pony and pinned the pony to look like a bun. I then twisted the section that was left out and voilà!

I also used my favorite edge control product for this hair style which is Curl Passion Fruit Control Paste. This little paste is the TRUTH!!!! If you are natural you need to have this!

This is a low manipulation style and also protective because your hair is out of the way.

If you are natural (or not) what is your go to hairstyle?

Styling Natural Hair with Kiehl's Stylist Series: Strong Hold Gel

I'm super excited to share this product with you. I have recently become a Kiehl's lover. To me Kiehl's was more of a skincare brand. I never thought I would be able to find a hair product that would work for my natural hair, much less a hair product that I would fall in love with. Well I was wrong!

I got a small sample of this gel and just had to go back to buy one! It retails for $16, which is pretty pricey for freaking hair gel but it WORKS! For the most part I have not yet found a product that would give me good hold and definition for when I do twist outs or other styles. This gel just does that for me.

Never have I ever experienced this much definition before. I used perm rods on a flat twist out and I was extremely happy with my results!

I also used it for my side braid style that I had on this post here. So far I'm really happy with this gel. The only downfall is that I seem to need to moisturize or add some type of oil to my hair after using it because it looks a little dry. Which is probably my fault because the times I've used it, I added no other product, and I should probably pair it with an oil for some moisture.

what is your favorite product to add definition to your styles?

Top 6 Natural Hair Styles to try in 2015

As a natural hair girl who finds it hard to tame her hair sometimes, I tend to take it to pinterest to find inspiration. I also tend to stick with the usual braid out or a twist out, but that can get really boring. So I have a natural hairstyle board on pinterest that I turn to often. So I decided to take six of my favorite pins and I'll try to recreate them on myself this year to break this natural hair boredom!
I absolutely love this style!!!! I tried to do the crochet braiding thing and it did not turn out as expected. It was actually a hot mess. One side was cut though lol But I've been seen so many awesome hairstyles lately using this method that I think I might give it another try.

Natural Hair Styling

Ok so it's been a while since I've posted. I'm trying to be more consistent but life happens. And on top of it all Blogger was not allowing me to post pictures *sigh* so I had to buy more storage blah, blah, blah.
So here is a short little post on this look I did. I tried a bantu knot out on dry hair, and I love it. My hair was super soft and the curls were pretty defined.

My makeup was extremely simple, with just winged eyes and bold lips (pink nouveau and lady gaga lipglass)

Self Portraits

I see so many blogs with beautiful self portraits and I've always wanted to do them but I just haven't been able to recreate anything cool. I have a really good DSLR camera BUT I barely know how to use it. So I'm challenging myself to learn what my camera can do.
I've also come to terms that I will need to learn how to use photoshop, and there's no way around that one. I will never get pictures to look beautiful and look "cool" without it. So here's my first try at it. I used photoshop and couldn't tell you how I achieved this because I was just playing around with it.

So what do you think of these pictures???

Natural Hair Protective Style

As a natural girl I try to take good care of my hair as much as possible. I don't do as much as I could and I'm also not as obsessed with my natural hair as some other natural girls are. I have a VERY low maintenance regime. But living in MN means that at this time of the year it's very important for me to take care of my hair due to the extreme cold weather.
The ends of our hair is the most fragile and when exposed it becomes easier for it to break off, so my go to protective style is a bun! This allows me to keep my ends tucked in and it helps my hair retain its moisture.
I have been thinking of braiding my hair, but I'm scared of the tension it would put on my edges (I'm so scared of losing my edges!!!)
It's important to note that you should not do your bun very tight. To achieve this style I used one of those hair tights and secured it with bobby pin. I then started to roll and tuck my ends under and secured each rolled section with bobbi pins.

Old Hollywood Glamour

Yesterday I colored my hair red, even though it is not as visible as I would like it to be, it is definitely lighter than before. So I did a bantu knot out to get this result with my hair and decided to wear my favorite red lipstick of all time ruby woo! With the heavy eyeliner and luscious lashes, this look reminded of old Hollywood (as goes the title of this post). I was really feeling myself lol!

Protective Style: Box Braids

So I am totally in love with the new natural hair style: Box Braids! It has become very popular lately due to singer and whatever else Solange Knowles. Though popular lately, this style has been around for years. I will be attempting to do this style tonight. I not a braider so I've been on youtube looking at tutorials, so hopefully it will come out looking as good these ladies do! What is your favorite protective style?

Natural Hair and the Corporate World: Is it a lost battle for the natural sisters?

So for the second time this semester I was the center of this argument in class. I go to an all women college and majority of the women are white, therefore they could not understand me when I expressed in class that I have to think of the consequences that my hair could have in my career and interviews. Everyone was chocked to think I am expected to look a certain way.

I don't know for other careers, but in the business world natural hair is not the norm. I concern myself with the thought of what am I going to do with my hair when I start interviewing. Should I wear a weave? Do I have to alter the texture of my hair in some way? Can I wear a puff? what about my fro???? I have so many questions!

Though nobody can really give me the correct answer I think it is important for me to do what makes me comfortable and to be completely honest, insinuating that my hair is anything apart from what it looks like at this moment in order to get a job is just not right in my book.

I don't see why I have to alter what God gave in order to make others feel more comfortable around me. I am in no way saying that will never wear weave or straighten my hair again, what I am saying is that I don't feel that I should do it for others. I love my hair, I love the texture and everything else about and I also feel very confident wearing my natural hair out, so why should it be different in my work place?!
