Red Lipstick & Champagne Dreams: THE BEST FOUNDATION FOR BLACK GIRLS

THE BEST FOUNDATION FOR BLACK GIRLS

I haven't worn drug store foundation in a very long time, it has been years actually. And here is why: YOU CAN'T TRY IT ON!! I don't have the time or the patience to keep buying random foundation colors and having to return them. I have tried a few foundations over the years but I always go back to my MAC foundations. However I've been getting tired of them, but I also didn't want to spend a bunch of money on it either, so I decided to take a trip to Walgreens to find a new foundation.

I didn't do a lot of research before I made the decision to get this foundation, my main concern was the coverage and off course finding a color that would work for my skin tone. And Cover Girl's Queen All Day Flawless foundation provided me with everything I was looking for. This foundation provides the power of a power, concealer and foundation all in one.

I now understand why I see so many people with the wrong foundation on. Shopping for foundation at a drugstore is not fun. There are so many options and no one with the knowledge to answer your questions. If this is the route you want to take I would highly recommend reading some blog reviews/videos to get a better idea of what you would want before making a trip to the store.

The Queen All Day Flawless foundation is now my absolute favorite!!!! I paid about $14 with taxes and it was worth it.

PROS:

  • Great coverage. In my opinion it has a medium to medium coverage that can be build-able into full coverage if desired.
  • Wide variety of colors
  • Did not make me look oily
  • Long lasting
  • Flawless finish
  • Designed for women of color

CONS:

  • Pricier than the other foundations
  • I ran out of it much quicker than with my other foundations
  • I don't think this is available in every store that offers CoverGirl products

The Queen Collection gets my vote just for the simple fact that it caters to women of color. There are so many brands (both high end and not) that do not provide colors that are suitable for us. Within the Queen Collection our every needs are met from eye shadows, to glosses and our foundation. I will definitely recommend this foundation to others.

  1. covergirl is great! I just dont like the smell =/ Right now, im loving Revlon's color stay (matte) and also Maybelline's matte foudation. When im running low or simply dont feel like splurging in bulk, they've never steered me wrong!

    1. the smell hasn't bothered me, but I've experienced that with other foundations. I'll have to give the other ones you mentioned a try. When I shop for makeup I like to spend my money on fun things and not the stuff I actually need lol

    1. that's not weird at all. I want to try that next but powder usually doesn't give me the coverage I like. So I would have to do it with the foundation still lol

  8. Before I switched brands, I wore Maybelline's Fit Me on a daily basis. It was the best I'd ever tried, and if I ever decided to take a break from my Makeup Forever HD Foundation I'd probably go back to Fit Me. Although I do hear that L'Oreal's True Match is a fantastic drugstore option.

I've never tried CG's Queen line. The drugstores around me don't carry it, so it's hard to find. Same with Shea Moisture's makeup line and Iman's. I'd love to try all three, but can never find them in stores.

    1. I think True Match foundation was one of the first foundations I started wearing when I got into makeup some years ago. I LOVE it than I got into MAC and forgot about. I need to try it again! I think all of these should be offered everywhere!!!! It's such a shame that makeup for us is still so targeted :(

  9. One of the main reasons I don't wear foundation is because it makes me look so oily. I will have to try this foundation from Covergirl. Great Post!

  11. I'm so new to the makeup game. I've been trying to find a good foundation and with living in Korea (where everything is made for... yeah) I'm going to have to wait until I'm home BUT I plan to try this. A couple friends of mine use it as well and have said it's good. Thank you!
